Patient Prism's Dental Industry Blog

Here you'll find hundreds of articles and video interviews with dental industry experts on the topics of DSO and practice growth, dental software, call-tracking technology, patient experience and artificial intelligence fueling the dental industries ability to treat more patients and change lives.

July 2019--Highlight. Inspire. Empower. Connect. These are the words and the motivation that drive Anne Duffy, the founder, editor, and publisher of Dental Entrepreneur Women magazine, or “DeW Life” for short.

I started my career as a dental hygienist in the 1970s, then expanded into dental consulting and sales. More than 20 years ago, I joined the team at Dental Entrepreneur Magazine and thrived on providing best practices and success stories to dentists to help them maximize their careers.

I found myself on the phone with amazing women all the time, and I realized the challenges facing women in the dental field were different than the ones that faced men. They are running businesses, practices, departments, households, and schedules. And often, they are doing it without the salary or recognition that men receive.

The Impetus to Create a New Magazine

In 2016, I was talking to a friend who was being belittled by a male colleague. I was so mad about it and tired of women not getting their due that I decided enough was enough. That night, I had a conversation with my husband on the porch. Where many people would have left it at that, I went into action. The next day, I began the legal process of creating a new magazine to showcase women in dentistry.

The Goals of “DeW Life”

I want to lift women up. Now women in dentistry have a voice. Dental Entrepreneur Women (DeW Life) has published 12 editions as of September 2019 and featured more than 200 women. The motto is “Be heard. Tell your story.”

Our audience is all women in dentistry. Our goal is to inspire and highlight women in dentistry and to be true to our shared commitment of being our best in all things, using our gifts for others while taking care of ourselves.

We believe that all women are entrepreneurs. They run the household, they run the schedule, they run the gatherings, they run the spending. They run life. We want to fill a void that exists regarding female leaders and inspirational voices to:

  • Show young ladies entering the profession that the opportunities are real.
  • Encourage those already digging in to raise their voices.
  • Provide a way for seasoned women in dentistry to give back

Just DeW It!

If you are a woman in dentistry, no matter what your role, we want to share your story. Your story might support someone else searching for their true passion and joy. Your struggle might be their struggle. Your win might be theirs for the earning. Your story can change someone’s life. Telling it will feel good. So, as we like to say, “Just DeW it!”
