As the co-founder of IgniteDA with Dr. Davide Rice, I've been speaking to dental assistants now for about 12 years around the country, and the one thing that I've found is they are often given the impression that they are the low man on the totem pole. The goal of IgniteDA is to break that mindset completely because we want dental assistants to see how valuable they are, how trusted they are, and what a difference they make – not only in the lives of their patients but also in the bottom line of the dental practice or DSO.  ## IgniteDA’s Three E’s IgniteDA is an organization dedicated to engaging, educating, and empowering today’s dental assistants. The champion and fan of dental assistants everywhere, this organization was founded to help dental assistants be everything they can be in their career.  We provide free content in the form of: - regular podcasts,  - video blogs, - dental meeting programs,  - online educational courses, and - social media sites for IgniteDA’s community members to stay in touch. Any dental assistant can register online and participate. Courses are sponsored by multiple parties in the dental industry to defray the cost. ## Career Development Opportunities for Dental Assistants There is no such thing as a dead-end job in dental assisting. The only ceiling that dental assistants really have in their careers is the one they establish for themselves. We want them to see the many available development and leadership opportunities that are out there for them. We’re constantly coming up with tips and learning more from each other as our members share their experiences. For example, one of the things we encourage dental assistants and dentists to do is to have a conversation about why they first went into dentistry and what is it they love to do. What's that one thing on the schedule that they both know will be a good part of the day? We have found that when dental assistants and dentists talk to each other and learn what they enjoy in common, doors open. Perhaps, they both really enjoy smile makeovers or oral surgery, whatever it might be. Then doors open to go to classes together.
