Patient Prism's Dental Industry Blog

Here you'll find hundreds of articles and video interviews with dental industry experts on the topics of DSO and practice growth, dental software, call-tracking technology, patient experience and artificial intelligence fueling the dental industries ability to treat more patients and change lives.

August 2021--At the most recent Dykema conference for DSOs (July 2021), Patient Prism’s CEO, Amol Nirgudkar, interviewed Len Wolfe, CEO of Dykema. “What I hope people take away from this video is that the Dykema organization—a national law firm serving businesses worldwide, is filled with people who care about other people,” says Nirgudkar. “Dykema is well known for its experience in the dental industry and has become the legal authority for dental service organizations nationwide.”

In his new role as the elected chairman of the Dykema firm and CEO, Wolfe says it’s a great honor to work with Dykema’s clients. The work is challenging, and it’s a great environment. “One of the things we’ve tried to do is focus not on what we think is important but what the client’s priorities are, and then delivering on those priorities for the client,” says Wolfe. “It may be a litigation matter or changing regulation to solve a business problem in a way that is efficient, effective, and gets the client where they want to go. I think we put the client’s needs first. If we do well, we grow that relationship.”

“In all of the businesses that I've started in my life, one of my big focuses was to hire the best attorneys that money can buy,” says Nirgudkar, “because what you're paying for, especially in the legal world, is not the document. It's the strategy. It's the path to achieve your objectives and to avoid pitfalls that could occur whether it's with your employees, with your partners, or with the government. And it always makes sense to have people on your legal team who have the most experience.”

Dykema has become the DSO legal authority

Dykema has more experience helping make DSOs successful than any other legal firm. What is consistent across all Dykema offices is that the lawyers are true experts in their field.

Dykema is responsive to the needs of DSOs

Dykema is more than the authority. “They’ve done this deal before. They know the industry well, but then there are added things,” says Nirgudkar, who is impressed by Dykema’s responsiveness and follow-up. “Dykema also is distinguished by its collaboration with clients to get transactions done or to reach a certain goal.”

Beyond solid legal work, remote availability and communication 24/7 enable Dykema to help clients at any time when a problem occurs or when a question is keeping them awake at night. “In a world where things don’t really stop, clients have problems that can’t wait until Monday 9:00 a.m. Our folks are responsive to that,” says Wolfe.

“Customer service is really an important element of what we think is a successful legal practice.”

Dykema aims to grow

The Dykema firm has 375 lawyers across 12 offices spread from Los Angeles to D.C. with a large presence in the Midwest and in Texas. DSOs are a very focused area of business for Dykema, as well as the automotive and financial services industries. Dykema wants to scale where the firm can have the greatest impact for their client's businesses, not only in specific states but also nationwide.

DSO legal counsel is a people business

“When you are helping a client solve a problem, it is a joint venture,” says Wolfe. Dykema works at developing a good relationship with each client. Clients should feel free to call at all hours, and technology has allowed Dykema to work with clients from any location. That’s a two-way street. “If our lawyers find a better solution to a problem, we want the relationships to be so strong our lawyers can reach out to the client and engage them outside of business hours.”

“At the end of the day, this is a people business,” says Nirgudkar, “and you want to treat people like you want to be treated. And I think that's something that I've taken away from your organization. It's filled with people who care about other people.”
